They Don’t Know

Today’s song was first written and recorded by UK artist Kirsty MacColl in 1979, then two years later, this version was released by Tracey Ullman. It was a hit, and word is that Kirsty herself did not begrudge Ullman for it, though some MacColl fans seem to be protective of her over it. I’m not going to get into the who-did-it-better debate, because they are kinda similar, and both really great versions.

In Ulman’s video we get a cameo from Paul McCartney, and a good deal of her comedian vibe as well. I will get back to Kirsty at some point, though, possibly for Christmas, and you if you’re a fan, you might know which song I mean!

Before the song, though, let me ask, anyone has any Halloween requests? Jeff would usually start asking about now. I feel like we’ve done “Witchy Woman” and “Monster Mash” aplenty on the old email list, but maybe you’ve got some good ideas? Drop them in the comments or in the messenger box. And have a great weekend!
