Indigo Girls Three-for-Thursday

Hey, how did it get to be Thursday? This has been a weird, migraine week for me, but I’m feeling mostly normal again, a bit washed out, but doing so much better.

How about you? How are you faring this week? What’s your mental health temperature today? My friend Joel and I check in on each other like that, and Micah last night asked me something similar because he found a similar question in his health apps. That led us down a rabbit hole of health information on our phones, and it turns out that I walked over four miles yesterday. Had my walking stick with me, so my knee held up just fine.

Still, I’m a bit sore. Right hand, elbow, left knee. Whatever your own situation, I’m wondering if you need a pick-me-up post this late in the week like I do. I’ve been meaning to feature the Indigo Girls for some time now, so let’s activate the Three-for-Thursday feature today and pile on the Indigo.

Now Emily Saliers and Amy Ray have played a huge role in my life during the last thirty years, so it’s hard to know where to begin. Their harmonies, their piercing, intimate lyrics. Songs like “The Power of Two,” “Touch Me Fall,” “The Language or the Kiss,” and dear lord, help me, “Ghost” and “Fare Thee Well.” could each break my heart all over again. But they are also strangely nourishing to listen to.

Still, moody and broody isn’t a good idea this Thursday. And I need to stay awake, so let’s go back to the 90’s with “Least Complicated” and “Galileo” and then fast forward to a live performance at the Filmore in 2018 with “Get Out the Map,” originally recorded in 1997. That fits well too since staff here at the library are discussing vacation plans this year. Road trip!
